“Above them is the miracle of eternal beauty, an unseizable secret of divine harmonies, the compelling magic of an irresistible universal charm and attraction that draws and holds things and forces and beings together and obliges them to meet and unite that a hidden Ananda may play from behind the veil and make of them its rhythms and its figures. This is the power of Mahalakshmi and there is no aspect of the Divine Shakti more attractive to the heart of the embodied beings.”

Sitar Recital
Sitarist Basab Sen accompanied by Shashwat Padhi on Tabla
Basab Sen started playing the sitar from the age of 12 under the guidance of Shri Anil Roy Chowdhury and Pandit Radhika Mohan Moitra at Kolkata. Thereafter he became a disciple of Shri Ajoy Sinha Roy of the famous Maihar gharana. He has created a style which is very much his own. In 1995 he settled at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry and had been teaching sitar since then at Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education. He has been a regular performer on the All India Radio. For Basab, the sitar has always been a passion and not a profession. Shashwat has been learning to play on the tabla since he was 8 years old. He had his initial training under Shri Tarun Banerjee, a disciple of Ustad Karamatullah Khan Saheb, the then Khalifa of the Farrukhabad Gharana. After Tarun da’s passing in 2014, Shashwat has now taken up the responsibility of teaching tabla to the students of Sri Aurobindo International Centre of education. He continues his tutelage under the great maestro Pandit Sanjay Mukherjee, who is himself a leading exponent of the Farukhabad Gharana.
